Google Bad Review:  After having a great Valentines meal at Thai Square Fulham 2015 I decided to take my wife to this one in 2016 but oh boy what a big mistake & big difference in restaurants.
Firstly on arrival instead of a nice greeting I found the lady on the door very rude stating even though they can see my reservation I had not payed a deposit so I stated it did not request I did so when making the booking or I would have done so but if it is a problem I can pay now.
Secondly even with a set Valentines Menu we were kept waiting nearly 40 minutes for our food to come out so by now my wife was not impressed.
The final insult was when the food did eventually come out it was luke warm & tasted like a ready meal out of a supermarket (not fresh at all) so as much as we were so hungry I really couldn't eat any of it.
My wife & I polite as usual didn't want to cause a fuss so didn't mention anything to them and just requested the bill & left but with this review if I can save any other couple from their Valentines night being ruined by going here then it will be worth while.
Im really sorry to say apart from the restaurant location in view of the river there's really nothing positive I can say.
By the way this review was meant to be written one year ago but it's only because Im now making plans where to go for Valentines 2017 I just remembered where I went in 2016.

It's hard for a simple pad thai to go wrong and it came out, the prawns tasted like spoiled fish. The only thing that was worth it was the prawns in tempura with sweet and sour sauce … that if they had not included a hair!
Outrageous price given the quality: Two people with a starter, two courses, a bottle of water and a glass of Pepsi from tap (£ 63 !!), they allow themselves the luxury of charging an extra 12.5%! .
I would not return or recommend to anyone.

Es difícil que un simple pad thai salga mal y salió, las gambas sabían a pescado estropeado. Lo único que mereció la pena fueron las gambas en tempura con salsa agridulce… eso si no hubieran llevado un pelo incluido!
Precio indignante ante la calidad : Dos personas con entrante, dos platos, una botella de agua y un vaso de Pepsi de grifo (63£ !!) , se permiten el lujo de cobrar un 12,5% extra! .
No volvería ni recomendaría a nadie.

Google Bad Review (2):  God, I would give -5 stars if I could. I never leave bad reviews but this is too much. On 22 October 2021 at 12.00pm, my friend and I went to C&R Cafe Restaurant in Chinatown, London. By the time I tried to pay for my portion around 1.00pm, the female member of staff serving us rudely and almost loudly insisted that their minimum card payment is £10, despite mine being only £9.50 — unless I pay the £9.50 in cash.

She did not even offer to pay me back the 50p in difference, and did not appear apologetic about scamming me at all, despite slightly raising her voice at me in front of everyone.
Not only that, after she saw the £9.50 on the bill and the debit card in my hand, she became a bit hostile towards me.

You might think 50p isn't much but if someone owed you £100 and they insist to only pay you back £90, with no proper explanation whatsoever, you'd be mad too, wouldn't you? I've worked in the F&B industry before and if the change, say, was 85 cents and the till ran out of 5 cents, we have to give back 90 cents in change to the customer — no less.

I tried to request for a receipt, but she immediately turned away and pretended she was busy then headed elsewhere. This is not only humiliating but also clearly a violation to my rights as a consumer. I did thought of asking another member of staff but I just wanted to get out of there — I also believe this is a family-run establishment so I think it wouldn't make a difference even if I tried.

From my understanding, Visa's Core Rules and Mastercard Rules have made it clear that it is illegal to establish a minimum or maximum transaction amount.

It is absolutely ridiculous to set minimum transaction amounts in this day and age, and especially with the COVID climate. I have since contacted Trading Standards.

An exact similar situation happened to another customer before me — see the picture attached.

Also, the food is not bad but it isn't great either. I wouldn't call it underseasoned but it's something like what a first year undergrad with minimal cooking experience would make. Malaysian food requires a lot of ingredients and since students are on a tight budget, they'd omit some. It's not bad if you're an undergrad but a bit of a letdown from a restaurant that has been here for over two decades.

Even before this blatant disrespect, C & R genuinely was never at the top of my head if someone asked me for Malaysian food recommendations. C&R is definitely good value and the food is okay, I don't deny that at all. But if you want the good stuff, do head west to the Paddington/Bayswater area or Rasa Sayang that's also in Chinatown. Food is packed with flavour and aromatics and the folk are simply the loveliest xx
