Google Bad Review 1:  Expensive dress arrived,was in poor condition with faded lace on the sides and pulled threads on the bodice of the dress. I rang the store, and was told that sale items could not be returned, even though this was not made clear to me at the time of purchase.

I then paid to have the item tracked returned, and received a very snooty response that they were under no obligation to accept it, and was told that the dress was in perfect condition, and they were only refunding as an exceptional service.

I found the staff to be snooty, unapologetic, and determined to tell me that a faulty item was in perfect condtion. I’m out of pocket as a consequnce.

Google Bad Review (2):  Beware of additional duties on international purchases. I am fortunate to be able to order beautiful clothing from Paris and London frequently and until now have never had an additional bill for taxes or duties. This information is listed on the ELA website but of course if you don't know to look for it until you receive a DHL email saying you owe almost $200.00 additional dollars on your purchase. By that time it is too late to make an informed decision and too late to change your mind about the purchase so you are forced to pay. A simple notation that is actually visible (like on the check out page) that taxes and duties are not included would satisfy the need to know that this charge is also going to be added to your purchase. The response from the proprietor was very cold and rude simply stating the policy is on the website. As excited as I was to find ELA London and have a new source for the wonderful clothing that I buy, I am equally happy that I learned a lesson about reading the fine print (that you would never know to look for) and being more particular about the quality and transparency of the establishment that I spend my dollars with. You can be assured that I will not make the same mistake twice.

I am now responding to the owner since I am unable to do so in a separate response. Since the speed of the delivery nor the use of the offered 10% courtesy as an incentive to join your email list as an active client was not a subject of relevance, I'm not sure why you bring up these points in your response, nor do I think asking about a charge is “complaining”. I am including a photo of the two Taller Marmo dresses that I have purchased from London in the last 2 weeks- one from Harvey Nichols and the other from Net-A-Porter, I was not charged duties for either of these purchases. Should you care to review my receipts I will be happy to forward them to you via email. The point that I made in my review was the fact that ELA London was not transparent about the additional duty that would be owed since this information is stated on a web page that is not going to be looked for until an email from DHL is received with the amount due for duty. As you said, you were going to consider adding this information on the check out page which I believe would prevent additional negative situations with your international clientele and would be considered transparent in my view. Since this information was not visible until after the fact, I stand on my 1 star review of ELA London.
