Google Bad Review 1: Most of these 4-5 star reviews on here must be fake! Really bad if not illigal experience with the Putney branch when purchasing. They don't take all offers to the seller, turn an offer proccess into a sealed bid auction and recommend buyers don't ask for a survey!
All of this is in breach of Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations (CPRs) which covers putting buyers under undue pressure to skip the survey or raise their offer sa Chestertons Putney have done with us.
The whole proccess was quite horrid and worrying. You have to call 10 times to get a viewing. The agent then tries to reschedule you because there is someone else they would like to show the property to in your timeslot. She comes in not knowing where the boiler is or anything much about the propery. When you say you are buying chain free with a mortgage she makes a face indicating your money is no good here for some bizzare reason. Then once you make an offer, you are told this will go over the asking price so pushed to offer more without taking it to the seller as per UK law…and then it turns into a blind “sealed envelope” type of auction. You are told submit your best offer by a certain date in an attempt to push up the price with an excuse that the “seller is overseas on a trip with little reception” without your initial offer ever being submitted which breaks every Ombudsman and legal rule in the book. And then on the day for final offers you get told it should be 80k over the asking price!!!!!
To sprinkle a little bit more sketchy stuff on top you get an email where the agent recommends you do not ask for a survey or have any conditions agains your offer!!! Not very transperant and frankly quite dodgy as they should have disclosed this would be a bid war no survey auction vs offers in a regular sell to begin with. Sounds like one of those scams you are told the other party is on an oil platform somewhere so they can't be reached but by all means do keep offering more money and don't you dare ask to have the property be checked by a proffesional surveyer (not that any bank would ever allow this)…
In a way glad we did not purchase with them as this “unavailable” seller would have turneded into an expensive nightmare no doubt. Their prefered buyers must be quite dodgy too to buy a high cost property cash without a mortgage or a survey in an non-official unregistered auction. You just can't trust Chestertos and I'd avoid them and their murky practices. You just don't know what you are getting yourself into with this property agency.
