Google Bad Review (2): There are serious cultural problems with management encouraging dishonest practices and ridiculous management charges. Avoid buying their pensions at all cost, I was advised to buy one and it has lost 75 per cent of value.I had a Zurich Pension which was invested in ‘safe' Gilt-edged securities and Fixed Interest Deposits on the advice of a ‘pension adviser' . I paid £702.38 into this plan between 1985 and 1988. Then I joined a company with a company pension scheme, and informed the company I wouldn't be paying into this. I assumed they would freeze it and increase it by a nominal amount as this was the position taken by another private pension I had paid into. Zurich basically took huge charges out of it and reduced this hard saved money to nothing. They advised me to move the money (with charges of course!) to one of their ‘chosen' list of funds with extortionate charges, which I did not do. This is daylight robbery, and illegal selling but the financial ombudsman agreed with Zurich. Later on, I investigated Zurich and found that thousands of people had bought ‘Vista' policies internationally with huge charges which were obviously mis-sold. A Canadian investment advisor Andrew Hallam has written at length about this. The Financial Ombudman Service is incompetent.
