Google Bad Review (2): I lived in North London YMCA for over 2 and half years and during this time the stuff didn't offer me any support in any regards specially I was denied the help they are supposed to provide to enable the residents to move on into some kind of permanent accommodation.
During my time in the YMCA I have not only witnessed but also experienced discrimination from members of staff. At one instance Emma Turay

Hornsey (North London) YMCA at the time, (I hear she got fired alongside 5 other senior members of staff for the use of illegal substances whilst at work), told me that the hostel wasn't safe so they made the switch to all pay card (a system that requires residents to visit their local ‘top up' point and make a deposit for service charges) the problem with all pay card is that residents would unwillingly disclose to the shopkeeper the fact that they are living in the YMCA i.e they are homeless. Therefore they would be treated differently and the shopkeeper would think of them as homeless or shoplifter as opposed to a valued customer which we are!
I told Emma that the fact that she doesn't feel safe amongst the residents shows the dept of stigma attached to be a Hornsey YMCA resident but I was threatened by an eviction notice so I chose the humiliation of being viewed as a shoplifter to being categorised as ‘intentionally homeless' so I made the payment. Strangest thing happened when the shopkeeper saw the YMCA card suddenly he held the cash I gave him to the light to check if they were counterfeit.
Skipping to the most recent incidents of discrimination, Fri 29th of June was one of those depressing days. In attempt to collect my mail I asked the receptionist: “could you check the letters for me?” And he refused me service demanding that I should say please to him but no can force anyone to say something they don't want and I have been very polite so I knew he just wants to prove to me that he is the boss and I and other residents should obey him. I tried to remind him that he is working in the Customer Services and I am his customer but my efforts were fruitless; apparently logic doesn't penetrate the wall of hatred and prejudice that covers some people's brain.
Failing to reason with him I went to see a manager and as always they refused to see me and another member of staff came and she had to hand in my letter because the receptionist refused to do so and he told me “have you thought that maybe it's your attitude that you are STILL in the YMCA?”
Now this can be interpreted in two ways:
1- he also thinks living in the YMCA is a shame and stigmatises it, looking down at the resident. Perhaps that's why he demands everyone to speak to him like he is the king.
OR
2- he has spoken to other staff and has knowledge that the housing staff deliberately avoid helping me because they don't like my ‘attitude'. After all I have been there for over 38 months and not once they told me about moving out opportunities.
I spoke to the member of staff who handed me my letter and voiced my concerns about future interactions with that particular receptionist and she promised me that it will be dealt with and that I needn't worry. She asked me to knock on the big office door on Monday morning and ask to speak to a manager about this as well.
The following Monday I was late for my course so as I was rushing I stopped by the reception to take a picture of the record sheet they keep of the letters coming in and being handed out, I needed this because I missed a dead line for a very important court appeal (it wasn't criminal court) but ononce agaiain he refused given the circumstances I begged him and got the sheet but afterwards he told me that in future he would not serve me so I should go to collect my mails only when he is not in reception which is during the weekend ,sometimes not even then.
I told him that if there are other people around I'll ask them but if he is the only one in reception then he has to help me with my queries. I left imdiately afterwards and he tostoppestopped by th
