Google Bad Review (2): I rarely write reviews, however, in March this year I happened to meet a barrister from Trinity Chambers, in fact they were acting as counsel for the other side and I was representing myself.
During the course of the hearing, I mentioned that I had been suffering from depression for sometime and was taking the maximum dose of antidepressants (double the regular dose).
The Trinity Chambers barrister made a throwaway remark that “half the population are on antidepressants”.
I found this rather insulting. Not only to me, but to all of those suffering from mental health issues. Comments like those made by the barrister from Trinity Chambers demonstrate the very reason many people will not talk about mental illness, and depression in particular.
Mental illness and depression are a serious illness that can, if left untreated, lead to a fatal outcome (suicide).
A person in the position of a barrister should not belittle or ridicule mental illness with throwaway remarks to score points in court. She should be thoroughly ashamed of herself and I question her ability to act as a barrister in our courts of law. I'm sure this barrister was not a true representation of the barristers fromTrinity Chambers.
And she didn't even have the grace or dignity to apologise.
