Google Bad Review 1: My recommendation is that you should not trust Joel with your money or your home. This is the fourth company that he has opened doing loft conversions. He still hasn’t completed my loft conversion and I still don’t have building control for it. One and a half years later. I still have many issues with the work they did too. Please see reviews for Loft World, his previous company – liquidated – and see Joel’s many previous closed business on Companies House (for free).
Joel’s work is sub standard and not completed. They will take your money and not complete the work, then close the company so you can’t reclaim through the courts. They gave me the run around for months and then just closed the company. He shouldn’t be allowed to open new companies. I know of at least 2 other people who have had the same experience as me. With Joel.
I’m still trying to sort leaks that have brought down ceiling in bedroom below, missing roof tiles, missing light fittings, creaking floors, no building control sign off – I have to do it, fallen down guttering, holes in walls, drafting windows, etc etc. See cupboard pictures I was shown – grey – vs what I actually got. My advice. Do your research before using this company or any Company that Joel Ryan works for.

Google Bad Review (2): I had an unfortunate and unfruitful relationship with LoftGuru. They are responsive and generally pleasant to deal with, so your experience might be different. In our case however, they decided to outsource the architectural part to CivilConsulting Ltd (they will get their fair share of bad review, no worries). What I'm unsatisfied with regarding LoftGuru is their insistence in using CivilConsulting as their partner architect, which then triggers this review on them. The details: we ended up depositing 5k£ to start a loft conversion and the work never started, so we lost 5k£. The reason is that the council rejected the plans prepared by the architect, not once, not twice, but three times! You would probably expect that professionals like LoftGuru or their CivilConsulting partner know what they are doing, but no, it was a simple matter to ask the council what was wrong with the plan to get it accepted. The problem for us was the exhausting relationship with CivilConsulting, slowly and incorrectly processing our change requests. We hit a wall where it was clear the architect was not even trying to understand what the problem was nor reading our instructions. LoftGuru here is responsible of doing nothing to unblock the situation and decide to partner with such an unprofessional architect. You might be lucky and have none of these problems, but we spent 5k£ for absolutely nothing. LoftGuru decided to keep the deposit claiming to cover the architect expenses for this, which is utterly ridiculous.
