Google Bad Review 1: I attended the Scarsdale Practice on the 8th of January 2020 to enquire about a dental implant. Peter Fairbairn was my consultant. He spent most of the appointment reminiscing about the talks he gave at Estonian universities, his purported patents and examining X Rays as well as taking photos of another implant I have in my mouth. I hope I will be useful for his research, I thought. Towards the end of my appointment we finally got to talk about why I was there – I needed an implant. I was in pain. He explained the treatment and said the costs are comprised of the implant, the crown and the graft. The graft he’d ‘throw in’ he said. Those were his exact words – verbatim. It was so smooth I almost couldn't believe it… In the end he quoted me 2100 for the full procedure (see attachment). 300 for the extraction, 900 for the implant and 900 for the crown.

I agreed to undergo the treatment. Two days later I visited the practice again to have my tooth pulled by Dr Leventis, Mr Fairbairn’s partner. I agreed to do it with him only and solely because I wanted to have everything done in one place and work together with the two dentists at Scarsdale Practice as much as I could. You know, to build bridges. Alas, the extraction was a mess. In a nutshell, he spent more time applying stitches than pulling the actual tooth; I spent days unable to speak properly, eating was highly uncomfortable and I had been in pain for over a week.

Even though the wisdom teeth extractions I underwent before that were a walk in the park compared to the one at Scarsdale Practice, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. After all, you cannot get it right every time. No matter how good you are, mistakes are inevitable.

I returned on the 10th of February for the implant placement. Shortly before the procedure began, Mr Fairbain’s secretary put a quote in front of me with an increased price of 1400 for the implant placement. This amounts to 500 more than I was quoted initially. Without doubt it was convenient for them that my tooth had already been pulled, which left me under some pressure to undergo the procedure as soon as possible. Needless to say, it started to feel like they wanted to take advantage of me. However, I tried not to jump to conclusions. More than a month had passed after all, and perhaps Mr Fairbairn had forgotten what he promised, or, in fact, quoted me on paper.

I entered Mr Fairbairn’s room to have a friendly chat with him, but he caught me like a deer in the headlights. ‘Look if you don’t need a tooth, just go.’, he introduced himself nonchalantly. When I questioned how a professional could change the price at the last minute, he brushed me off away with a quick line: ‘Look I don’t know what has to be done exactly, graft or no graft, but if you want to go, then go’. But a promise is a promise, correct? And more importantly, if he doesn’t know what has to be done, then what does this tell us about his expertise as a dentist? When he cut people open to put metal rods in their jaws – did he know what he was doing?

With that in mind and put off by his disgraceful demeanour, I left immediately. Gladly, I can afford to wait a few more weeks and go somewhere else. But not everyone can – which he knows it. He is looking for prey. When they have your tooth pulled, your bone starts deteriorating and you are waiting for an implant, it’s a little bit like them leaving you in the desert, craving for a bottle of water. It suddenly becomes a seller’s market, a textbook rip-off. The moment this became clear sucked the breath right out of me. I couldn’t believe it.

I strongly encourage you to avoid this place. Wherever you go I genuinely hope your troubles will be solved and your pain alleviated. But if someone puts you under pressure – please be careful. Don’t allow the sociopaths out there to make a quick buck off your pain. Always ask questions, always take your time. It’s your health after all, and it’s yours to protect. Take care out there.

Google Bad Review (2): I've been having issues with my dental implant ever since I had it done 4 years ago. At first the whole implant came out after only 6 months (it become so loose that the doctor was able to yank it out with minimum effort). It was re-done at no cost (as they are guaranteed for 10 years). However, I had to go back every year after that because the crown kept coming off. Finally, only a few days ago, the whole implant has started moving about again and it is ready to come out again. Although it is still in guarantee, I've decided not to go back to this practice as they have done a very poor job.
