Google Bad Review 1: Very disappointing experience with Cuffe Vets. We got our little pug 3 weeks ago and initially called Cuffe to discuss Lepto 2 vs Lepto 4 vaccines as our breeder had told us that Lepto 4 is incredibly controversial and can cause death in some dogs.
We were reassured on the phone and I was confident that they knew what they were doing. We went in for a consultation and all was fine, so I decided to bring our pup back for her 2nd vaccination and worming a few weeks later. I asked how much the cost would be for this and was told £60. When we arrived, they gave our puppy the vaccine, gave me the worming medicine to go home and administer myself, but then proceeded to add on other medications and a nose spray, of which I ended up being charged a total of £113. Quite a leap from £60. Beside the issue with the lack of transparency with the cost, I was told after she had her 2nd vaccination, she'd then have to go in for a 3rd one a month later, which was not initially discussed. I was confused as to why that was but was told it is simply a “booster.” Again, no transparency and not true.
A few hours after we arrived home from the vet, our puppy was throwing up for quite some time. I called Cuffe immediately to let them know and I was advised it was due to her vaccinations. Why was this side effect never discussed with us in the first place? Furthermore, I contacted our breeder to discuss our experience with her to see if this was normal and to ask about the third shot… she had revealed to me that they had in fact given our puppy Lepto 4 without discussing this controversial shot with us in the first place. With Lepto 2, there is no need for a third shot.
I am incredibly disappointed with the total lack of transparency with this vet. At the consultation, they should at the very least, go into detail about the vaccinations, what we're getting into, the possible side effects, medicine she will need over the next several months, etc. I feel completely duped and taken advantage of us as a young puppy owner and find this type of practice in breach of ethical and moral standards as far at veterinary medicine goes.
I have contacted Cuffe to let them know how disappointed I am with our experience and am truly stunned at the lack of apology and explanation.
I have learned a very wise lesson and hope that by sharing my experience, other first time dog owners will hopefully not make the same mistake I did and be sure to ALWAYS ask about the vaccinations, possible side effects, etc and to always ask the vet what the total cost will be, not just the cost of the vaccines. You'd think they would tell you all of this anyways but that isn't always the case. It is quite sad as you want to wholeheartedly believe the vet has your dog's best interest at heart.
We have since taken our pup to a wonderful new vet, who explained everything about the vaccinations, worming and medicine she'd need in full detail and I feel completely reassured now thankfully. They were incredibly helpful and warm and I feel that they truly do believe about my puppy and her well being.
