Google Bad Review 1: After reading the many 1 star reviews given to M&K Heating and Air Conditioning all I can say is, we dodged a bullet.
We recently had a water leak in our mini-split ac wall unit, so I called ‘M&K' who had installed the system in 2016. The Technician came out the Friday evening of the long weekend, we discussed the leaking problem, I suggested it might be a drainage issue as I had seen this happen in a unit where I work. I asked about Mike the owner who had given us incredible service when we bought and he advised the company had been sold a couple of years ago so was under new management. He tested the compressor unit outside and told me the PSIs were low indicating the system was leaking refrigerant which is the ‘worse case scenario’ for a mini-split system. He quoted $3,000 to repair but suggested we may be better off buying a new unit for that cost. I wasn’t sure about our warranty status since it was only 6 years old and asked if the office could look into it before we do anything. Fortunately, there was no hot weather in the forecast otherwise we may have made a desperate decision and very expensive mistake.
A Customer Service Rep from M&K called after the long weekend acknowledging what the Tech had said and offering M&K’s ‘loyalty offers' and spring sale deals to buy a new unit since we may not want to put that much money to repair ‘an older unit’. This was a sales call, not a call to assist in seeing what warranty coverage we may have to fix the unit. I received an email from the CSR with details of our system and indicating she would look into our warranty and would get back to me by Thursday. I heard nothing back by the following week so I called again and spoke with another CSR who would also look into it, again, no call back. In doing my own research, I discovered the manufacturer has an on-line warranty look up system which provided me the certificate showing that we do have an extended 10 yr warranty which the previous owner had registered for us at the time of purchase. I emailed the documents to both CSRs and asked for a warranty repair appointment. No response from either so I called again, and a third CSR said she’d have my request escalated. No surprise, no one called by the following morning, so I went to M&K’s office which was not open, however I was able to find a couple warehouse employees and asked to have the Manager call me. That was five days ago, still no call. On that note, you will never actually reach someone at M&K in London by phone as M&K is run by the Right Time Group of Companies, a Canada wide distribution of HVAC companies with all calls going to centralized call center. I’m not sure if that really qualifies as a locally owned company.
In the meantime, I did some Googling and made calls to local HVAC companies to find out about possible causes for our problem, how warranties work, etc. I also started asking around for recommendations for good local HVAC companies. One company’s name came up a couple times, so I called, was given an appt time for a day and a half later (two weeks after M&K's visit) along with the Technician's name. He arrived at the scheduled time, reviewed our system, and found that a pump in the unit was malfunctioning which he repaired and fired up the ac to ensure it was not leaking. It was that simple.
In my experience, M&K Heating and Air Conditioning provided poor service from start to finish. Thankfully, they either did not want to do our warranty work or just wanted to sell an unnecessary new unit to an unsuspecting customer. Either way, I’m glad they ignored us and that we found a competent, local company that provided exceptional service to us from start to finish.
As a footnote, that other company just sent us their bill which provided details of the repair and offered various payment options whereas I had to pay the M&K technician by credit card before he left and his bill was more or less a sales sheet listing pricing to purchase/rent new equipment so it shows what M&K's focus is and it's certainly not repair.

Google Bad Review (2): Brian made the first mistake, after 2 visits to “inspect” our air conditioner. “Drain fine” was the report. “You need a new unit”. Matt made the next mistake: “I was a service tech for 8 years and then in sales for 4 years: the dirty coil is not the problem and the drain is ok: you definitely need a new unit – $7000.00”. Orzech actually bothered to find the problem: “drain totally blocked, coil clogged with dirt, unit frozen as a result: $450.00 for 6 hours' work”. We have 59 degrees F at our 3rd floor vent with 100 degrees F outside. Children are plenty cool thanks to Darcy. Thanks Orzech, M & K “Climate Care” London: OOOPPS!
