Google Bad Review (2): I can’t put into words how much heartache London Vision Clinic has caused me. By far the most disappointing & upsetting experience I’ve had with any medical practice in my many years in London.
I spent a long time saving up the £6,500 to have the surgery. 11 months & 12 appts later, my vision is still very blurred, day & night. I’m very lucky I don’t need to drive here; I wouldn’t feel safe.
It seems many positive reviews here – the ones written by real patients – may have been written soon after surgery. At that stage, people are probably just relieved they got through the surgery. They also probably believe what they’re being told by the clinic that their vision will get better soon. Unfortunately what they’re being told isn’t true, or at least it wasn’t true in my case.
First they said my vision would be good within the 1st week, & the last bits, e.g. seeing halos at night, would be gone no later than 3 months after surgery. Then they said it would take 4-6 weeks to start improving. When my vision was still blurred at 3 months, they said 3 to 6 months. Then they said 6 to 9 months. Now they say it’s actually not going to get better, & they’d have to do surgery all over again.
Vimal, the optometrist, tried very, VERY hard, in 2 separate post-op appts, to convince me my vision was actually fine, presumably to try to save the clinic the cost & the effort of having to do a 2nd surgery. When he saw I wasn’t going to be satisfied with blurred vision, he said he’d discuss the results with the surgeon & follow up with me. He didn’t. I then had to ask my patient care coordinator Meghan, then the clinic manager Kate Berry, a combined 4 times. Finally, another 5½ weeks later, they told me the results & admitted my vision was blurred & that it will never be good, unless I go through surgery & the whole recovery ordeal all over again.
They refer to the 2nd surgery as an ‘enhancement', but it's a 2nd surgery – i.e. going through the unpleasantness – & the risks – of surgery a 2nd time, taping plastic shields over your eyes every night for a week after surgery, inserting 3 different types of eye drops every day for a while, taking pills, & waiting however many months for the halos & the dryness etc to go away, IF everything goes right, just like after the 1st surgery.
I guess the unsuccessful surgery shouldn’t be a complete surprise given the surgeon’s behaviour prior to surgery. When the surgeon Mr Carp met me to examine my eyes prior to surgery, he had plenty of time to tell me stories about his Cotswolds holiday, but then he rushed me through the eye tests.
During the surgery, the laser popped a blood vessel, flooding the white part of my eye with blood, meaning I had little social life for 3 wks. Mr Carp also was quite unhelpful after the surgery.
Given the disappointing outcome & my unpleasant experience with Mr Carp, Meghan promised me I wouldn't be treated by him again. She said Dr Reinstein would treat me instead, as she said they have only 2 laser eye surgeons. When I then travelled to see Dr Reinstein, he knew nothing about the change & vehemently refused to let me switch surgeons. When I asked Meghan for an explanation, she declined to give me one. It seems she simply lied or made it up when she said they would switch surgeons. The same Meghan took up to 6 days to reply to my emails, if she replied at all. Even when she did reply, I was lucky if she answered my Q. It also took 2.5 months to be given the surgery.
One of the many times I’ve had to make the trip there since surgery, they had booked the appt a month in advance. Yet the day before the appt they changed both the doctor I was going to see & the time of the appt. At the appt, Dr Reinstein seemed quite unprepared, unaware of most, if not all, that had transpired to that point.
I was extremely patient with London Vision Clinic & gave them so many opportunities to accept accountability for all the ways they had failed & to start being honest. Sadly, they have chosen to do neither.
