Google Bad Review: We are currently in the process our selling our Edwardian home and on our buyer's building survey an area of one wall was highlighed as being damp though this wasn't due to rising damp.
Reasonably the buyers had a second contractor to come and assess – London Property Preservation ltd. They instantly assessed this as rising damp as a result of a failed damp course and the remedial works quoted were totally excessive to the cost of approx £4k.
Given we knew this was not a rising damp issue (and are on a hill) we employed an independent specialist damp surveyor, with no ulterior motive given they only assess the issue rather than then quoting for the work, which was highlighted as condensation problem due to ventilation, no rising damp and supported by a week's worth of data logger readings from a hygrometer with required remedial costs of 50£ for sealing paint and a heater fan to dry out the wall.
If using LPP to quote for work related to damp i'd suggest you also get a second opinion from a specialist surveyor before proceeding.
