Google Bad Review (2): Mr Jack Patel of Keystar Locksmiths came across a pleasant individual, However, I was disappointed by his overall workmanship. We recently called him to replace the existing latch and cylinder lock on the front door, to fit couple of deadlocks and bolts for built in wardrobes, put up few screws on the wall for 2 mirrors and 3 pictures frames ( which was quite straightforward and anyone could have done it). I left him do the work unsupervised trusting he would do the work as advised.
However, upon inspection of his work after he left the property, I realised he did not aligned the latch properly and didn't know the requirement of tail bar as advised by Yale, he ignored my instruction to place packing before fitting the bolts and as a result, both wardrobe doors are not sturdy when they are locked, he did not pay attention when he chiselled the slots for the deadlocks for the wardrobe then I had to intervene and asked him to correct it for my child and other children safety as splinters were sticking out ( to my astonishment he was trying to justify it by saying oh kids wouldn't do that).
We felt he was cutting corners and he was keep complaining which was unprofessional indeed.
One job he did to our satisfaction however was replacing the cylinder lock and correcting some of the defects left by the developer, for which I am grateful.
He has charged us £75.00 for putting up few screws on the walls for mirrors and frames and changing the latch and cylinder 2nd time because it was not done properly the 1st time. It would have been justifiable if he had done the overall work at least to best quality.
He also tried deliberately to obtain extra £ 15.00 from us even after we had paid the total amount, fortunately, my wife realised his planned and she pointed out to him and then he just drove off.
I called Jack after my inspection of his work to complain of his poor workmanship, but he just made excuses saying it will be ok or call me back if you have problem. Point is we trusted him and he did not listen to our instruction or simply he is incompetent.
I only called Jack after obtaining quotation from SKS Locksmith Belmont Harrow. SKS was very professional, Gavin carried out the survey (which Jack did not even bother) and gave us a competitive quotation which would have saved me £100.00 because their quotation included supplying the locks and parts and fitting and most importantly it would have been high quality workmanship as Gavin came across very competent indeed.
Unfortunately, SKS had tight schedule and long wait for the appointment before they could carry out the work which we couldn't because of our tight schedule. I truly now regret that I had employed Jack to do the work, instead we should have waited for Gavin from SKS to carry out the work.
I have learnt my lesson, for future work in our houses we will employ SKS and their expertise to carry out such type of work and I would not recommend Jack (KEYSTAR) again to anyone thinking of employing him or to any of my friends purely because of his incompetence and overall
quality of his workmanship which I believe was below the standard one expect from an expert locksmith which he claims to be.
We are very disappointed indeed and he had broken our trust and will never call or put our trust in him again.
Another point SKS Locksmiths quotation included materials, fitting and VAT, which was far better and competitive than Key star which was dearer even without including materials and VAT.
