Google Bad Review 1: I was left so disappointed with my experience at HK and with designer Tom specifically. My fiance and I, like so many other stories I read on their website and google, went to HK to design a bespoke engagement ring. I was so excited to make my own ring and the reviews were so positive. But that's not what happened.
Prior to our appointment, Tom called to book our face to face session and ask for a few more details from the design brief. When I emailed him a few more thoughts/ideas before our appointment he was quick to reply. During our appointment he was attentive, patient, and sketched what we were describing. We saw him on a Saturday afternoon and he said he would send the fuller sketches to us by Tues or Wed. We were with him for over 2 hours during the appointment and he was neutral if not professional.
Tues and then Wed roll around, nothing from Tom. I left it until Thurs evening to email him to check in and ask if everything was alright and how it was going. No response. I eventually called the following week just to make sure nothing bad had happened and he came to the phone, said he was out a few days the previous week and that he would send the designs that night. But there was no real explanation, no apology, no recognition that he hadn't responded or sent the designs as promised.
When he sent the designs it was clear he hadn't done any more work on them. I initially thought maybe he took longer because he was really thinking through the details of the setting or maybe rendering them in CAD, but they were just the sketches we'd seen at the appointment with some generic sketches of mount styles. The diamonds he included in a price estimate were not to the specifications we asked for and some were over the budget we'd detailed in the brief.
It's been over 10 days since he sent the designs and diamond proposals and there's been no follow up from him to ask if we like them, if the diamonds suit, or if we want to continue. Zero.
Given the obvious lack of enthusiasm, care, and responsiveness, we've decided to go elsewhere for our rings. I was so disappointed this wasn't the experience all the other reviews spoke of.
Since this didn't start until after we met in person for our appointment I have no choice but to believe it may be due to a judgment on my partner and I specifically or very suspicious coincidence. I don't know if it's our budget being deemed too small, them being too busy (then just set realistic expectations or tell me), or something else, but it was clear he did not care whether or not he got our business and didn't bother to follow up. He was never impolite but neither is his lack of responsiveness professional. If he didn't want the brief or was simply too busy then he should have said so, rather than ghosting us.
A company is within its rights to say they are not interested in incoming business, I understand that. But I am sorely disappointed by this experience. I would not recommend it based on what my fiance and we went through. So incredibly disappointed.
