Google Bad Review 1: Expensive!! The whole process of dealing with the company is very straightforward and they keep you well informed about progress. Having said that, you always seem to deal with an intermediary- rather than the person carrying out the restoration. This can become a game of ‘Chinese Whispers’. They pass on what they think you asked and reply with what they think the restorer said. I found this both confusing and frustrating.
The work they did was fine however the painting looked little different to its original state. Yes, the obvious faults had been rectified but the improvement was not as great as I had hoped.
One interesting point is that things progress very well once you agree to have the work done. The collection is very professional and efficient. After that, you receive prompt and regular emails about their assessment and the progress. When all is completed, you pay the bill and then everything goes quiet. A few weeks pass and you keep getting told that they will be arranging delivery next week, or maybe the week after.
The painting did arrive eventually (at the correct time on the correct day) and once again I can’t fault the delivery driver – he was extremely polite and professional.
Would I use them again?? Probably not to clean a painting. I’m sure you could get it done much cheaper with a local restorer. If I had a valuable painting with a specific problem … yes, I probably would use them.
