Google Bad Review: A thoroughly regrettable experience.

I am keen to stress that I never usually feel the need to leave a review for anyone, but my experience with Favour Catering & Events was so frustrating I have carved out the time to write this review.

Favour provided all the catering for my wedding on 14th October 2017 in the UK. They were recommended to me by my cousin, and after attending a private tasting session, as well as another wedding where they catered, I thought their food was pretty good so was happy to go with them. Little did I know what I was setting myself up for a big fall, and to be £250 out of pocket as a result.

Around April, discussions regarding menu choices and pricing began with Nigel, the owner, during which quotes discussed with my sister (who spoke with him before me) were significantly marked up upon discussion with me. Naturally I insisted previous quoted prices were honoured, and after this was agreed I was told that, going forward, I would no longer be dealing with Nigel but his wife, Victoria, instead. Strange, but no problem. The real issues were to come.

As you can imagine, the closer you get to your wedding day, the more stressful and hectic things become. Well, the closer to my wedding day, the more difficult it became to contact Favour. At the end of August, communication was non-existent – Victoria had resorted to reading and ignoring all my messages (see attached image). Why this started to happen suddenly, I would pay good money to know (though I suspect the review by ghobry123 referring to Favour attempting to wean off certain customers has some truth to it, probably for better value elsewhere). However, this close to the wedding, I was committed to my choice and Favour took full advantage of that to ignore and frustrate.

Roll forward to my wedding day itself, I was a perfect ease with every single one of my suppliers bar one: Favour Catering & Events. And they fully justified my unease:

• On arrival, Favour staff did not know they were contracted to serve food to my guests at 11am. I had to physically leave the room where I was getting ready to go and find Victoria to ensure she had the correct plan – needless to say, the food was served late.

• The “All Day Drinks Package” agreed, which cost me much angst, turned out to the false. Favour did not bring enough WATER to serve guests in the morning – I had to purchase bottles at extra cost from the events venue.

• Canapés were served late in the afternoon – then Victoria had the cheek to suggest that the agreed serving time was 5.30pm, when we have an agreed contract stating 4pm.

• Even though we gave exact meal choice and numbers 4 weeks before the wedding (which did not change), some guests did not receive the meals they selected.

• Even though we agreed that Favour would keep the top tier of our wedding cake, this tier went missing.

• And to top things off, after the wedding, Favour neglected to return all the tableware to the contracted supplier, somehow managing to misplace several TABLECLOTHS costing £250 in replacement costs.

As you have probably guessed, all efforts to contact Favour after the event has been futile (even though, on their website, they purport to conduct a “post event de-brief”). It's almost as if they don't exist, and I'm emailing and messaging a couple of ghosts.

I have never received such an abysmal level of service in my life – they must believe that decent food excuses them from delivering a base level of customer service throughout. The management tier of the organisation, Victoria in particular, was woeful and entirely unprofessional, and I do feel sorry for anyone having to deal with her. As the saying goes, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me”. Take heed and think twice before employing Favour Catering & Events – unless decent food is more important than your peace of mind.
