According to Chronic Pain Policy Coalition 2019: – About 3 in 10 men and 4 in 10 women in England suffers from chronic pain, and – 1 in 4 said that their pain had kept them from usual activities (including work)… And that is a lot! But what is pain? Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience which is constructed in the brain. So, what causes pain? We experience pain when our pain receptors (nociceptors) are stimulated by noxious stimuli, which in turn activates brain regions that are associated with pain.
