Google Bad Review 1: An unpleasant and deeply embarrassing first visit to Croydon Central Library on 23.02.2022.
I'm a pensioner,recently moved into the area and was looking to use the computer and photocopying facility of my local library. Arriving just ahead of opening hours ( checked details online prior to visit -10.am.). Doors of the building are open but an enquiry about pc & photocopying facities at the office situated to the left side of the main ground floor entrance,was told to ask the security guard for information !! Huh?!
I was directed at the general direction of the corridor- the Public Library.Upon arriving at a blue shattered gate, which appears to be the library but yet to be open to public. I walk over to a roomful of computers situated opposite the blue shatters and asked someone whether there are photocopy machines that the public can use. ( most public library in England now has coin operated machines). The reply was : ‘just around the left hand corner' !! There's no access control on the photocopiers, nor any notice as to which office a visitor has to contact before operating the copier. None ! 2-minutes into using the copier, I was confronted by a very unpleasant gentleman asking me who I'm and telling me off for been there and using a copier which seems to belong to some organisation ( NOT part of the Croydon Public Library). He wanted to confiscate my paper, but changed his mind and told me to wait while he went to fetch his superior……….
For such a large public building,there is no floor plan anywhere in the public area showing where the public library proper is situated and information about what are the others rooms on each floor where public accesses are limited. I believe,to prevent similiar incident in future, better signage and a floor plan of sort would be of great help to visitors to the building.

Google Bad Review (2): This is proper Croydon style library. Dirty, ran down, almost complete lack of service despite being located in such a monumental building: I went there with my 20 months old hoping to find some good book and a baby friendly space as most libraries nowadays have a decent kids space. Well, it was simply a big open space room with a bunch of old and dirty baby/toddlers books and a very depressing outlook. Shame on Croydon, please AVOID this dirty hole.
