Google Bad Review 1: HAIR TO WARE REVIEW – PLEASE READ!!
I felt it was necessary to write this review so that future customers are aware that this individual had done this to me, I can honestly say hand on heart that I have never wrote a bad review, or even wrote a review come to that about any person/business ever because I am the type of person that would rather let things go and move on, but this individual is probably one of the nastiest, rudest, self-righteous individual’s I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Had she of been an employee, she would have lost her job.
I was a customer at this shop, having already purchased my first wig there. I decided to revisit the shop to try on shorter wigs. I found one which was perfect length and style which did not require cutting or reshaping at all except for it was the wrong colour. The assistant suggested they could order in the same wig in my colour. He said there was no obligation to buy it but I would be able to make a final decision, so I agreed to this. I also required my current wig to be restored, I had previously discussed this with them and they explained I would have to leave the wig in the shop as they do not do this while you wait.
After receiving the telephone call to say that the wig has arrived I thought I would visit the shop on Saturday as I couldn’t get there from work by 5pm during the week. I took my current wig in view of leaving it with them and collecting it once it had been restored a few days later. Whilst I was there, I mentioned to the owner, Amanda, that I would like to take a couple of minutes to try the wig on which I had already brought the £282 with me because had the colour suited me I knew I would purchase the wig there and then. She replied I would need to book an appointment for another day because I have to have a fitting and possible cut etc. I explained that I had already done that and the wig did not need changing or restyling at all and all I needed was just 2 minutes to try it on. I could see that the shop wasn’t busy with one other customer and three staff and I was happy to wait. I said surely as I am here this would make sense to do this, you would get a sale and I would have my wig! Her reply was something along the lines of “well that’s not how we work and if you don’t like it, your problem”…
It wasn’t only what she said but the tone she said it in. Both my mother and I were horrified at the way she spoke to me. I have never experienced such a rude obnoxious individual in my life. Yes, I was angry at the way she spoke to me and yes, I did respond by saying “how dare you talk to me like that” I’ll tell you what, stick the wig where the sun don’t shine” ! She then proceeded to the shop door opened it and shouted out to me “get out”! Both my mother and I were completely taken back by her outrageous behaviour. My mum’s a pensioner and she was very upset by this. As I was leaving the shop, my mother said to her “treating a customer like this is disgraceful and even more disgraceful when those customers are vulnerable, there’s something wrong with you your attitude stinks”.
Unfortunately, I had to give this 1 star to be able to post my review even though it doesn't warrant 1 star.

Google Bad Review (2): As a Stage 4 cancer patient going through chemo and have thinning hair , I had been so looking forward to the appointment. The prospect of feeling “me” again was so exciting. My husband came with me. However the salon owner recommended a £1200 human hair Topper when we surprised at the cost Amanda brought two cheaper synthetic toppers – one too small which gave no real idea of what it would look like, then a larger synthetic topper that was grey …I'm Blonde! . So I was expected to make a decsion from these examples. How could I ? Also it has been pointed out to me since by two other specialist wig salons that the clips to secure the topper would damage my hair, follicles and scalp being so sensitive going through chemo and that a wig is the best for my hair. My husband and I even pointed this out as there was was red patch on my scalp after the topper had been on for 2 mins and told it would be fine! The recommendation didn't sit right with me so I wanted to try wigs. I tried a couple but they didn't feel right I didn't like wefted and wanted something handtied and lace front. I kept being told when you pass your driving test you don't go into a Ferrari you start out in a peugoet 205?! This is to apparently manage my expectations? I just wanted to find something that I felt good in but with the time restraints of an hour appointment I was unsure of what I wanted I was passed to someone else to try a few others on. I left with a wig on order to try on and I'd get a call in 3 weeks to come in and try it. I had an few days to think about what I wanted and called to re arrange an appointment. All “clients ” have the recommendations written up. The receptionist saw the notes and said”Oh your the “ONE” who took ages to decide !! And the appointments are for clients on chemotherapy!!! ” As if to say you've had your alloted time and …I am on Chemotherapy!
So I spoke to Amanda as I was furious as I had been made to feel a complete inconvenience, not how you want to feel when having to go through such a traumatic experience of losing your hair chemo having terminal cancer especially after so looking forward to the appointment. Amanda said she was standing next to the receptionist when I had called and felt that the Receptionists comments were acceptable!! Really??? Amandas attitude was if you don't like my advice (being the topper) then maybe we aren't right for you, find somewhere else to go……”go to the wig shop at Lakeside where you can try on 100s of different wigs, I am a business and if we kept giving consulations for free I would not have a business.” The “free” consultation is an hour and I was there for an additional 45mins. I would rather they charged for the consultation and gave me the time and the opportunity to find what's was right for me. They do increase the cost of the wigs to include colour styling etc no doubt consultation as well. This is not the first time that Amanda has been criticised for her rude attitude. I have many contacts within the Cancer community who on hearing of my experience were horrified. Word of mouth can work both ways.
I think that the problem is, certainly the impression given, is that Hair to ware has cornered the NHS and private sector for wigs locally. They almost have such a high demand that the attitude is we can afford to choose who we deal with. If you don't agree with the recommendation within the hour you are not right for them and in my case made to feel an inconvenience. They can afford to turn your business away. The nearest alternative salons are Southend or Colchester which is a way to travel. However I would rather travel an hour plus to one of these professional salons which I have done with fantastic advice, professionalism and empathy rather than step another foot in Hair to Ware again which is 15 mins away. I have found a Ferrari of a wig from elsewhere and was so impressed that I purchased 2 spending enough to buy a blimin small car!!
