Google Bad Review 1:  Really surprised how disappointing this was. This is my local pub, and after seeing the menu options we decided to come for dinner. We booked for 7pm, but most of the items on their menu were not available – which we had to find out when trying to order through the QR code (the menu was on the table as normal and the staff didn’t inform us at any point – even items that WERE shown through the online menu were unavailable).

I saw one of our servers wipe their nose on their sleeve while behind the bar, which was concerning considering the hygiene risks and supposed COVID-19 precautions in place.

We ordered two burgers and a falafel dish, which took over 40 minutes to arrive. The staff were apologetic when we went to ask about this, and explained they have a new chef. However, when the food did arrive it was burnt in places and cold in others. The burger buns had a very strange, off-putting smell to them. We found small amounts of fried fish on one of the vegan items, which was the last straw for us.

We will definitely not be returning.

Positives – nice decor and nice staff. The server I spoke to when I went to check about our food would arrive was extremely apologetic and friendly.

Google Bad Review (2):  My girlfriend and I visited this pub on a November Tuesday evening for a pub meal. Unfortunately we did not have a positive experience due to a number of issues:

• Much of the food menu was unavailable. We happen to be vegans and this meant we only had one option for a main.
In addition, this is the first time in my life that I have experienced a food outlet other than KFC who’s french fries are not vegan-friendly.

• The food took a good while to arrive. We ordered falafel and burgers, which you wouldn’t expect to take the 40 minutes we waited for.

• The quality of the ingredients are quite a bit cheaper than the prices had suggested.

• Finally, despite ordering a vegan meal, we found chunks of batter (maybe fish batter) with our Baked Falafel Bites. Which is unacceptable.

On a positive, I found the staff friendly and accommodating.

They served me a drink with someone else’s crusty contact lenses fused to the inside of the glass which frustratingly I didn’t notice until after I’d finished my drink – you’ll see in the video attached that they blend in quite well with the glass design. When I complained the barman offered me another drink (absolutely not!!!), and then walked off awkwardly. If I’m honest I also wouldn’t have a clue on how to handle this situation either, but at the very least, offer a refund…

Google Bad Review (2):  Right, I’m going to make this clear now – I’ve been going to the Porcupine for over 20 years. It was probably the first pub I ever ventured into within the central London area, as a 16 year old drinker way back before I moved to London. I have been a vocal advocate of this place ever since and always bring people here – good people – for the real ales and good atmos.
It was January 2015 when I noticed this pub’s decline – for my birthday evening I arranged for my dozen or so friends whom were invited to meet me here. I wished I hadn’t as the ale I had was most definitely off or the lines had not been thoroughly flushed in a while. I was sick all weekend – as any real ale drinker will tell you, a bad pint can knock you for six.
Due to my loyalty for the Porcupine, I continued to meet people here for after work drinks, functions etc. Never again. Yesterday, myself and my friends (again, all good people) were treated despicably by the passive aggressive member of staff located on the first floor who looked down his nose at us (as we were obviously locals and not of the ‘theatre dinner’ crowd) then proceeded to ignore us for at least 10 minutes (we hadn’t even been served drinks within this time), the only moment of any attention was when he told us very sternly from the next table that “You can’t say f**k in here”, which was a bit weird to do to people in an already loud room whom are having a PRIVATE conversation. He then decided / declared that he would refuse to serve us – almost playing to an audience.
So, Porcupine, you’ve lost a loyal advocate who has promoted your pub for many years. Oh, and made yourselves look like an utter prat in front of serious ale drinkers, minding their own business. I look forward to your demise in the next ‘development’.

Awful experience here in central London on a Friday night while out with my boyfriend and another friend visiting London.

I was assaulted by the doorman who crushed the plastic glass in my hand, and then physically wrestled it from me which cut my right hand! Why? Because I delayed to give my drink that was I trying to finish right there and then like other regulars next to us, who were drinking their pints of Guinness without being hassled.

Anyway! I’m a reasonable mature woman (40s) and I would have been happy to leave the glass if he had used educated words and not used threats, aggression and ultimately physical force!

The rest of the staff didn’t say anything to him they limited to give me some plasters when they saw the blood. Nobody among the staff and least of all the doorman apologised to me for what happened.

I’m wondering what is the policy in this “place” that allows the door staff to treat the costumers with disrespect and even with aggression.

I was absolutely furious and stood up to the doorman and afterwards went out to look for the police, who happened to be present in the street on a busy night. While I was talking with a policeman (who was unsympathetic) the doorman quickly made away from the pub after the end of his shift.

Thankfully today at the police station I had better attention.

Google Bad Review (2):  I really did not appreciate a member of staff running after me onto the street accusing me of not having paid. Explained that I had paid but was basically accused of being a liar. Produced the receipt and not even an apology – just a shrug as she turned and walked back inside. The absurd thing is that she wasn’t even my server – maybe next time ask the server of a particular patron before defaming that patron. No idea what their game is, but make sure you take your receipt with you!
