Google Bad Review:  Disappointing experience. Started off well. Our contact was Enna. She was competent, approachable and in general a pleasure to work with. Things took a turn when we had an offer put forward. Charles, the agent who was working with these buyers was not Enna. He was pushy – using sales tactics to get us to accept an offer £10k lower than we were prepared to accept. He kept telling us ‘who knows when another buyer might come along?’ (These guys offered days after we’d dropped the price) We felt the asking price was incredibly good – priced to sell, so stuck to our guns. He made us feel pretty low about ourselves for doing this. The buyers went up £10k. We voiced our concerns over how serious they were, again dismissed by the agent and made to feel stupid for airing such concerns. He was beginning to lose his patience – he just wanted us to accept the offer. We accepted. The buyers later pulled out of the sale.

Enna was the one to break the news, not Charles. The property was back on the market on the Friday (still priced very competitively as we wanted a quick sale, but at the right price) a viewing took place the next day and they offered the same price as we had previously accepted. The line of ‘who knows when another buyer might come along’ was exactly ‘a line’. Charles either had no interest in getting the best price for us, he just wanted a sale, or was incredibly inept and had no understanding of the market. Not sure which is worse.

Our new buyers stuck, but had problems. When problems arose, our new contact at Douglas and Gordon was nowhere to be found. A text 3 days later said he’d ask colleagues when they got in and would be in contact ASAP. I never heard from him again. Our solicitors sorted it out amongst themselves and we were so exasperated by Douglas and Gordon’s unhelpfulness, we left it to them to touch base with us. They didn’t.

On completion day, in the afternoon, we had a ‘surprise’ phone call. I think they were surprised to learn completion had happened. ‘Err, where are the keys?’ they frantically asked. This should have been sorted ahead of completion day!

My old neighbour in the same building is looking to sell and asked if we’d recommend them. I’ve wholeheartedly said ‘no’ and it’s reminded me that I never did leave a review…
