In March my wife attended Health and Aesthetics in Elstead for a facial. Afterwards she was handed an A4 sheet of paper headed, ‘ZO Prescription Pad', on which five products had been recommended.
A couple of days later I telephoned the clinic and explained that I wished to purchase the products that had been recommended to my wife; this was to be a present.
The individual I spoke to had a dreadful telephone manner. Before I could fully explain the reason for my call she interrupted me and warned me that she could not help because of privacy and data protection. In fact, the points she posited were inaccurate, but I asked if I could simply purchase them for myself. She placed me on hold. I was surprised by the length of time I was left ‘holding' but she eventually returned. She told me that she had been worried because I had referred to a ‘Prescription Pad'; I tried to continue my explanation.
Before I had got a lot further, she spoke over me. I waited until she had finished speaking and then continued – until she spoke over me again. She apologised ‘if she had spoken over me'.
I was then able to describe the five items listed on the ‘ZO Prescription Pad' and asked that she tell me the price.
She listed two of the items I had described. There was a long pause, so I asked, “… and the other three things?” I listed them again – the second time, she listened.
She told the cost would be £ 362.28. I asked if she could arrange delivery – yes, they could be posted to me at a cost of £ 6. I agreed to purchase the items, but the total she gave was more than the £ 362.28 plus £ 6. I questioned her maths – she explained it was the fault of the computer (!).
The following day my wife answered the doorbell to a scruffy package addressed not to me but to her‽ It was a ‘jiffy bag' type of padded envelope, bearing a Health and Aesthetics label. I happened to see my wife beginning to open the package. I stopped her, explaining that it was actually for me, and took it away.
I opened the package. Each one of the five items was damaged. Despite spending nearly four hundred pounds on ‘prescribed’ products that are claimed to ‘elevate your skincare' with a ‘systematic approach' using ‘superior technology' and ‘targeted program solutions', they were dispatched in a scruffy, inadequate, package. Not even a box!
