Google Bad Review (2):  Absolutely terrible experience so far with Atkinson McLeod. The letting agent was great, very responsive, secured us a property very quickly etc. But as soon as we paid our deposit and were handed over to the administration team the customer service has been shocking.

All of our reference checks were accepted and deposit paid more than six weeks ago. Our move in date is meant to be in 5 days time and we still do not have a lease agreement nor any information about the property, what time we can move in, how we get the keys etc etc etc. There has been absolutely no effort to keep us updated on the situation which leaves my partner and I chasing this on a weekly basis. The answer we get is always “you have nothing to worry about, there’s a backlog and we’re dealing with urgent leases. We’ll get to your lease.” And we are treated like we are crazy to even be chasing it. More recently my emails and phone calls have been completely ignored.

I have never experienced this before and am shocked that a property agency can have such little empathy for the customers it serves. Moving house is already a stressful situation, let alone when you have no legal confirmation you actually have anywhere to live in a few days, nor can you make any arrangements such as removalists, what furniture is necessary to buy (we still have not had confirmed what furniture will be left in the house) etc. 6 weeks is not an acceptable amount of time to deliver this documentation.

The thing that is the most frustrating is that the only control we really have at this point is if pull the pin on the property altogether. This is definitely not something we want to do given how hard it was to find the property in the first place, how much money we have already paid and the fact that this would leave us with no place to live in 5 days time. We already are having to pay for accommodation in between our lease ending on our current place and as we are both living away from home have no family or friends here we can stay with. Pulling out of the property at this stage would be very stressful.

Atkinson McLeod: hire more administration staff if your backlog really is that bad, and address the absolutely abysmal customer service of your team.

AN UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW: Following posting this review, after being very difficult to get hold of, I finally got a call from Atkinson McLeod.

Long story short, they had know for at least 2 weeks that the property owner was shifty…he was making it very difficult to sign the lease and was unresponsive about maintenance issues that needed to be sorted before we moved in. But, rather than being transparent with us about the situation, when we could even get hold of them, they insisted that we would get our lease and made us feel crazy that we were suggesting that the process was taking too long. And, they waited for me to write a terrible review before they got in touch and told me that, in fact, they didn't think that we would get our lease. This was 5 days out from our due date when we had paid our deposit 6 weeks earlier!

Once we'd agreed that we would not go through with the deal and needed all of our money refunded, the next drama was getting the refund. They continued to be unresponsive and then eventually lied through their teeth that the money had been refunded and would be in my account within 3-5 working days. I then received a phone call later on admitting they didn't have my bank account details because we'd paid by card so they couldn't have actually refunded the money.

All in all this experience was an absolute nightmare, putting an incredible amount of stress on my partner and I. We had initially been working with Foxtons but changed to A.M because we wanted this particular property. When it all fell through, we went back to Foxtons Borough High Street Branch and Kristina there was an absolute god send, sorting us a place and we had our lease within four hours.
