Google Bad Review:  On Friday 4th March 2022 I had an electrical repair corrected. By Tuesday 8th March the fault was back. On Friday 4th March I was advised I had a front suspension problem needing immediate attention. This repair was quoted at £850. On leaving Ancasters I drove to a different garage for a second opinion. That garage reported no need of immediate repairs. Also that Ancasters quote was grossly inflated. If the repair was necessary they would charge about £320.
I took my car back to Ancasters for its MOT on Monday 14th March to have its MOT done. Also to look at the electrical fault that had recurred. Ancasters failed my car for its MOT because of the suspension problem and declined to repair the electrical problem unless they were paid £900 for a complete new wiring loom.
I took my car to a different garage the next day and it passed its MOT as, in their opinion, there was no excessive play on the suspension that would warrant it being failed. They also offered to do the electrical repair that Ancasters did not want to do and showed me the poor standard of the previous electrical repairs.
I had discussed cancelling my service plan with Ancasters on Monday 14th March and was advised that they could arrange this. I wanted to mull this over for 24 hours. When I phoned back asking Ancasters to cancel my service plan suddenly they could not do this and I would have to contact the Service Plan company direct. I was given a premium rate telephone number and was told this was the only phone number they had for the company. I found a non premium rate number for myself and cancelled the policy myself.
I feel that I have been misled by Ancasters on more than one occasion, given overpriced repair quotes, refused a repair that another garage were happy to undertake. Ancasters have proved to be awkward, they do not return phone calls when promised and the last service receptionist failed to respond to an email I sent him.
If I could give a lower rating than 1 I would be sorely tempted to do so.
My wife and I have bought at least 4 used cars from Ancasters and the last one was bought brand new. I would have hoped for better treatment as a long term customer but sadly this is not the case. They were a good company to deal with but have gone seriously downhill over the last couple of years.
I have checked their on line reviews since this poor treatment and have seen comments like ‘avoid….avoid….avoid' and another accusing them of being ‘money grabbers'. I am beginning to understand why.
I have now paid out twice for an MOT that in my opinion should not have been a failure.
I am now having to pay twice for another garage to correct Ancasters poor attempt at an electrical repair.
At no time have Ancasters commented in a sensible way to these points or offered any type of refund for their poor service.
I cannot currently recommend Penge Ancasters to anyone now and have been letting family and friends know what to expect should they go there.
