Google Bad Review: This is unfortunately a bad review.
I don't like to give bad reviews unless it's necessary and I've given plenty of time and opportunity to put the problem right. Well I've given plenty of time and opportunity and now I'm being ignored, so I'm left with little choice:
I have a SMEG SIM562B Induction hob, which sometimes was not detecting the pan on the hob even though it was there. Moving the pan around or tripping and setting the MCB normally sorted it. Sometimes “Error F3 – Disconnect the hob from the mains and check the electrical connection” was shown.
This was explained to Suhayl the engineer before arrival on the phone.
Abbey appliances was booked via NAC Domestic Appliance Repairs, they have an agreement where they use Abbey engineers.
Suhayl arrived on 15/01/2021.
Firstly, he had a mask on over his mouth only and his nose was completely exposed the whole time he was here, making wearing a mask completely pointless. It made me uneasy enough to put on my own mask on in my own house to try to protect myself (which I did).
Straight away after looking under the hob he said he knew what the problem was, that it had been fitted wrongly and that there wasn't enough space between the bottom of the hob and the oven underneath it causing it to overheat.
He moved the oven down for me creating more space between the hob and oven but losing the under oven storage. Still it was worth it to fix the problem – or so I thought.
A few days later, disappointingly the same thing happened again so the issue was not fixed. I contacted him.
He replied that the damage must have been done by the previous installation. Without even looking at it again he said that the main circuit boards needed replacing and asked me if I wanted a price. I said yes in order to work out if it was worth it or not.
It bothered me that even though the error message clearly said check the wiring he had not done this, so I decided to check this myself, and I found 2 things:
1) There was indeed a loose wire, and that could have been the fault, I'm not sure yet, but it's not good that he didn't check that first considering the error message.
2) The clips that normally go around the hob to create a snug fit were all missing. This was even more annoying than normal because I saw them when he pulled the hob out, then just after he put the hob back in, I asked him “Did you put the clips back?” and he said “yes”. No doubt he never expected me to lift it out again.
I had a look in the SMEG manual.
It was actually not fitted wrongly, it needs only very minimal space underneath which it had, plus a ventilation grill. There was nothing wrong with the original installation.
I texted him asking him very politely to return the hob clips. There was no reply.
I text him several times after that and all were ignored.
The end result of this is that I was charged £120 for nothing, I now have a low down cooker for nothing, I have lost pan storage space under the cooker for nothing, he wanted to charge me hundreds more for new circuit boards for nothing and he has stolen from my house all of my hob clips, then lied about putting them back in, refused to answer any questions about this or any of the issues, would not bring the clips back despite many requests and ignored my texts!
Needless to say, I will not be requiring him to do any repairs on this or any other of my appliances ever, and I will not reccomend ABBEY APPLIANCES LONDON LTD or NAC Domestic Appliance Repairs.
