Google Bad Review 1: Poor communication, planning and arrogance has resulted in sub standard treatment – I am now forced to go elsewhere for it to be remedied. Until they resolve some serious clinic management issues and start to put patients interests first, proceed with caution.

Google Bad Review (2): I am a very nervous dental patient. I first came in here for a second opinion, attracted by their professed individualized approach to each patient her needs, and their self-claimed expertise in dealing with very nervous patients. My fears are rooted in deep trauma of bodily (including oral) violation. Same experiences resulted in obsessiveness in oral and bodily cleanliness. I took a leap of faith with this clinic. To say I’ve been disappointed is saying far too little.
While the dentist I saw was very compassionate and understanding to the degree he could be, and moreover had a very reassuring, patient, and lively (in chipper and effortlessly humorous sense) approach, and he did try to individualize his approach with me, he is not representative of the clinic as a whole. That is what makes this affair quite devastating. I could see some hope of building trust with Dr. Raul Costa. And I really wanted to be able to. I missed two appointments without the necessary 48 hour notice due to mental crises (probably related with the dread I had inside), of course these were paid for in full. With that I have no problem. However, to make another appointment was a deeply troubling process where I had to prostrate myself due to their ‘two consecutive missed appointments’ policy (which is that you no longer can make another appointment at this clinic). They granted me ‘another chance’ as though it were an act of great mercy and benevolence on their part, for this unworthy of consideration person. They had all the information of my extenuating circumstances. The morning of this appointment (today) I am sick with fever, sore throat, cough, head and jaw pain, a runny-to-stuffed nose, chest pain and wheezing, and painful regurgitation which may or may not be related. I called in morning of and explained the situation and made clear I would come despite if not coming would mean being written off. I was advised to rest but then got the news that as a result of this missed appointment for a block of 30 minutes, I am no longer welcome.
The invocation of ‘Clinic Policy’ is bull. The owner can make a different decision based on extenuating circumstances but chose not to. The previous 2 appointments I missed were due to mental health crises from long-standing mental health problems- to be clear they are so deep I’ve been an inpatient now at a mental health facility for 6 months. It’s the 21st century and I’d have thought there would be more awareness and accommodation for cases of this sort, but instead this clinic turns away a vulnerable and very nervous dental patient due to rigid policy that is bafflingly demeaning to a patient’s humanity and situation, especially considering the impact my trauma has wrought on being able to build trust with a dentist and the hope I saw with Dr. Costa in his intrusiveness-minimization approach and how he took the time to explain things to me clearly and, actually, compassionately. I would not implicate him in the inhumanity of this clinic’s higher management, I would just advise that if you’re a complex case that may likely run into obstacles with dental treatment, or if you just want to know that your clinic has your back were you to have complicated conditions, turn away. My understanding is most of the dentists there are active in other practices too that might actually live up to the promise of treating every patient individually and making the health of each of their patients their focus— which this clinic advertises but definitely does not.
Don’t loosely let your trust form with them, because this big boss who runs the place is far from deserving. I was told by the receptionist (and let me be clear, I place no blame on her at all) that if these rules are disagreeable to me, then perhaps this is not the clinic for me. In that she is definitely correct. It was my mistake to rashly start to have hope of a comfortable-down-the-line ease with dental matters because of one dentist employed there. And again, I am pretty sure most of these dentists work at other practices too.
