Google Bad Review (2): Overall the shop was clean and the receptionist was very nice and was awesome in helping arrange and book the appt with Fabio. My life long best friend and I travel the world together and wanted to get semi-matching tattoos to reflect all our travel adventures together. We live in the US and thought it would be a fun experience to get the tattoos in London at the end of our European vacation.
One of us wanted a regular airplane with 14 dashed lines, 7 of which were colored. The other wanted a paper airplane with the same exact dashes line (14 dashes, 7 in color and same size). I have 2 other tattoos so this isn’t my first experience, but both others were in the US and also small/simple. For my friend, this was her first tattoo (and likely last).
Here are my reasons for one star:
1. In general, we both felt that Fabio didn’t seem to care about our tatttoos and maybe it’s because they were small, simple tattoos (airplanes)
2. We wanted to sit together during the tattoo and at first we were told no and after my friend convinced him he finally let us, but was clearly a bit annoyed at us.
3. After going back and fourth 3 times on small adjustments (like you do with any tattoo). He never actually showed us the final print before the temporary tattoo (which shame on us for not asking) – in which we each had to review serperately since we were not allowed to sit by one another at first.
4. My dashes line is not 14 dashes nor the same size as my friends. So it’s not matching in that regard. However, the most upsetting part was we specially stated we each wanted 7 dashes in a color as that is an important number to us, but I ended up with 8.
5. For the color of the dashed line he had my friend approve her color but just started tattooing mine without me approving the color and mine are lighter for what I would have preferred.
6. He never had me check my final tattoo in the mirror to see if I had any changes. (Again shame on me for not asking, but I just was overwhelmed at that point and honestly wasn’t getting a sunny disposition from him so I was a bit nervous to ask any questions).
7. My friends tattoo is at a weird angle compared to mine. And again, in hindsignt we should have requested they put the temporary tattoos on both of us so we could look at it together but it was such a big deal to have both of us sit together in the first place and neither of us are super seasoned tattoo people.
8. The shop has a 70 pound minimum and a 50 pound deposit. We were quoted anywhere between 70-90 depending on the size. I’ve attached a picture and they are not big, or complex – but we were charged 90 and were not told a final price until after the tattoo was finished. Defitnally overpriced in my opinion for what it was and we should have asked upfront after we agreed on a drawing. But this is something other customers should be aware of.
9. Both of us are non-confrontational people and in hinsignt we didn’t realize the level of questions we needed to ask and left too much up to assumption.
Pros:
1. Nice receptionist / easy scheduling via email
2. Decent prices compared to other shops in London
3. Clean overall, clean/new equipment (needles)
4. We did see other people having consultations with their artists who were sitting with them and drawing in detail, so I think the artist we had (Fabio) is good if you have an exact drawing of what you want but I warn you to not leave anything up to question or chance – we can’t speak for other artist.
Overall:
We both had knots in our stomach afterwards and felt upset about the experience as a whole. We didn’t have the good or fun experience we were both hoping for, which is sad considering this tattoo will be on our bodies forever.
I get we both should have been more forward in asking quuestions or giving direction, but to some point it is also the tattooers responsibility. This may be okay with some people, but other people seeking a tattoo (slightly nervous, shy, non-confrontational people) should be aware of the mentality of the shop and artist (Fabio).
