Google Bad Review (2): A couple of my items went missing from my room while staying there. Nothing worth more than $150 and I never assumed it was intentionally removed- likely an honest mistake misplaced by staff or perhaps the items were thrown out accidentally. The TLDR: The Edition senior staff did nothing and helped me zero. They told me I could take it up with the police. Yes. The police.
When I reached out initially, they told me they would conduct an investigation (one that I have no ability to verify or participate in but that’s besides the point), when I heard back a week later they let me know that they checked garbage bins and talked to the employees who had been in my room. They concluded that nothing wrong happened (as if I made this up?) and I was plainly told I could contact local authorities to file a report if I wished (what?).
Next email up the chain requesting help- The General Manager, David, told me they followed Marriott procedure so there’s nothing they could do and he said he hopes they get the chance to make my next visit a better one. Never did they strike a conciliatory tone of “future dinner is on us, we’re sorry”- it would have gotten an eye roll from me but it’s acknowledgement of a mess-up and I would have moved on. Perhaps even returned as a customer.
I then spoke to the Area Manager, Joanna, attempting to explain that this feels more like a matter of principle and that she should know how the hotel is handling situations like this. Both in regards to hospitality loyalty/best practice and the amount of money I spent at their property (I brought a team), a simple acknowledgment would have been enough to make me feel heard. Instead, I received the email equivalent of a shrug (I can chuckle at this now). I was not surprised at this point… these are corporate automated human responses I’ve come to expect.
So there you are, the property is nice, but you should know how they’ll handle mishaps- they won’t. There are better places in London. Check out the Soho House properties.
