Google Bad Review:  Perhaps the worst estate agents I've ever had to deal with during 21 years of living/renting in London.

Even before we moved into the flat they were managing, they routinely ‘misinformed' us about contact they had made with the landlord – however as we'd already met the landlord and he'd given us his number, it turned out upon speaking to him that no contact had been made at all.

During our 12 months at the property stay they proved to be equally as unreliable, despite having promised a first-class service to the landlord before he handed over a non-doubt not-insignificant lump of cash.

Hence the landlord and I decided that we'd manage any fixes, replacements and other issues directly between ourselves.

They were equally as ‘misleading' (if I were being cynical I'd say lying) when it came to leaving the property and managing the checkout inspection, landlord signoff and deposit return – yet more instances of several Storeys ‘managers' telling us they'd be in contact with the landlord to move things forward, only for a quick Whatsapp chat with the landlord to reveal that'd they'd done nothing of the sort.

I'm quite astounded by the number of positive reviews they've received on Google. Surely some mistake?

Google Bad Review:  I haven't had much dealing with Estate Agents, so perhaps I was underprepared, but I was astounded by the lack of service, care or consideration these ones offered. I felt like they were children wearing business suits pretending to be estate agents, who'd got bored of the game and decided they didn't need to do any work because Clapton was getting cooler and the houses would just sell themselves.

The room I moved into was £500/month (in 2014) and covered in black mould, which after a day or two made me ill. Not just a little bit, but full on flu symptoms ALL THE TIME. I had a chesty cough, blocked ears and sinuses and my phlegm was dark green which shows it's infected. It was June at the time and sunny.

I arranged for them to come round and take a look. Arriving 2hrs late with no phone call or apology, they looked at the mould and told me it was just condensation and not damp, even though it was wet to the touch and black and mouldy. They said I should open the window. The window was open. They left without proposing or admitting anything, and I felt like I couldn't live this way (perpetually sick) and the struggle i'd have to go through to get them to do anything wouldn't be worth it and the best thing to do was move out. When they found out I was moving out, instead of apologising for the living conditions they were supplying and profiting from, they instead threatened to throw out all the other housemates for the trouble I'd caused!

I couldn't believe it, I had to write them a grovelling letter, begging them not to punish the other housemates for my ‘fickleness', which was really just a necessary health measure because what they'd provided wasn't adequate. We kept my moving out a secret, and I sublet for the rest of my contract, thinking that perhaps as I was quite sensitive to mould other people would be fine. In fact, two more people moved in and out in quick succession, before that room was deemed uninhabitable (by the housemates, not Mansions).

Mansions are the epitome of everything that is wrong with the housing situation in London. I think they are inept, uncaring, money pinching and nasty. I would advise anyone to steer well clear- as soon as you have a problem they could just threaten you with eviction as it's the easiest solution for them. Stay away!

Google Bad Review:  I’ve never met a more unpleasant real estate agent than James, the owner of this company, and that’s saying something. I tried to buy a property through this agency and was met with arrogance and rudeness at every turn. When that didn’t work he resorted to downright bullish male chauvinism when he didn’t like my queries, implying that as a young woman buying her first property, I couldn’t possibly know what I was talking about. I found him totally intimidating and nasty. In the end my lawyers had to deal with him, and even they told me that they’d never come across a more difficult estate agent! Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else for a property!

Google Bad Review:  Started a tenancy of a house in Dulwich, rented through Hamptons, last month and feel seriously disappointed with the agency already.
The property was handed to us in a poor shape with a bunch of issues picked up in the inventory report, yet the agency has been largely dismissive of them, referring to our concerns is “teething problems” or “age related issues”. Clearly, there's a private landlord on the other side, yet the agency has shown little support in resolving the situation so far, ignoring multiple emails and just stalling things.
Two-star rating really reflects my current view of Hamptons International Dulwich branch, albeit I'll duly revise it should things improve down the road.
