Google Bad Review 1:  I got a £40 beard trim voucher from a friend as a birthday gift and was very excited about this treat. Sadly things didn't go as planned.

I had received a very kind and formal email from Truefitt and Hill with my appointment confirmation which in my mind was part of the gift.

When I got to the shop the staff was superficial and inattentive. I was asked to leave my jacket on a rail and to sit on an armchair. What struck me the most at first, was the lack of consideration and attention towards me, especially being a new customer. Normally when you go to a premium barber like Murdock or Huckle The Barber you are asked if you want a drink, a whisky, a coffee or a beer. But at Truefitt and Hill none of this happened. I was just left there without any special service.

The beard trim experience was average. The barber was capable and kind, although he didn't support my neck properly while trimming my beard leaving me with an uncomfortable neck-ache. Once the trim was done I was asked to go back to reception where the barber was waiting with a card reader. This is where my tragicomic experience begins…

The receptionist, asked me to pay and when I told her this was a gifted appointment, confirmed by their email, she told me I needed the paper gift voucher (so vintage right?). I told her I did not know about this and showed her my email confirmation from them, which I thought was enough, with such a premium service. I also suggested to show her a photo of the gift card as an alternative. Her reply was shockingly rude and short tempered. She pointed at the barber (who was waiting impatiently with the card reader) and demanded I paid £50 for the beard trim. I protested about the unexpected and unreasonable £10 increase which the barber could not explain. I found out later that he tried to trick me, which I find appalling.

I patiently tried to make the receptionist reason on this matter, but things escalated and their rudeness really made me want to leave and never ever come back. So I paid, and left.

After this horrible customer experience I had to call my friend who claimed a full refund (£40+10) and got a formal apologie from the customer services at Truefitt and Hill.

Although I did get a full refund of the voucher, I still can't believe this happened and I feel that it is important to share my experience with the world and advice any future customer against this poor, overpriced and approximate barber shop.

Google Bad Review (2):  Mala tempora currunt…in England too. At 71 of Saint James's, all finishes with the elegant and perfectly British-old- style reception, the ancient boiserie and the pictures of W. Churchill and Gen. Montgomery. Hair cutting and “bird trimming” are left to a less Brit-old-style multiracial team. Banned the old style and borying knives. .., all the hard work is done by the trimmer (made in China). A subtle trrrrrrrrr sounds all around the ancient woods. …Just seated, I tried to explain to my “barber” what I was looking for; he answered: “…dont worry and relax…” (because of his mood in authentic P.E. Baracus style, I renounced to any kind of reply and resistance). Results: one year of a serious ITALIAN barber efforts (Erika, I miss You!!!!) destroyed in TEN minutes and hair cutted like Adso da Melk in the well known Il Nome della Rosa. The bill was in perfect Brit-new-Arabian- Russian-Indian-Chinese-Style: 100 GBP; fortunately issued by the same elegant and pleasant old Brit Style Lady. I to ok the liberty to underline that, as per the menu, “hair cutting and beard trimming” did 90 GBP. “…there is the neck shaving, Sir!…”. “…Oh, yes, what a stupid man I am!!!!…”. Churchill and Montgomery are probably turning in their graves. Trick and Bills.
