Google Bad Review 1:  Please don’t use Chestertons in Kentish Town. They lied to us about how many people were buying our property to get us to lower the asking price. They then denied all knowledge and then once proved wrong they offered no apology. Absolute wide boys in cheap suits. Totally living up to the estate agent stereo type. Disappointing. Please stay clear!

Google Bad Review (2):  I would give 0 stars if I could. Here’s what happened:
– Saw a flat with an agent who told me we had to have our offer in within 3 hours so it could be submitted to the landlord.
– Three days later, the agent texted us to say that the landlord loved our offer, but wanted us to increase the amount £3150 (list was £3,100) or higher. We said okay.
– The agent then became unresponsive.
– Two days later I got in touch with the letting director, who was able to get the agent to call me back.
– The agent then admitted to me that she had never shown our offer to the landlord. She had instead decided on her own that she felt the number should be higher while she gathered other offers. Additionally she stated that she did not want to put in any of our conditions.
– When I asked why she lied about getting feedback from the landlord she told me that “it’s a very competitive market right now.”
– When I asked to speak with her manager who “knew the landlord” so that I could get advice on what kind of offer would close the property, she told me he was out and appointments and could not be available for me at all.
– I agreed to maintain our increased offer, and indicated that I was willing to go higher if we had actual feedback from the landlord.
– The agent again became unresponsive. Several days later I followed up with the letting director again, who was able to get the agent to return my call.
– The agent told me that the landlord had gone with another offer that was £50 per month higher. We would have beat that offer dramatically if given any chance.

Summary: The agent lied in writing, then refused to respond or put us in contact with anyone else. This eventually sabotaged our offer. Don’t waste your time with agents who falsify information. We have had significantly better experiences with the other agencies in the area.
