Google Bad Review 1: I took my young son to see Lee about improving his handwriting. My son wouldn't let me leave so I sat in the room while he was being taught and was able to observe the lesson in progress. There were at least another 6 boys in the small room (some without a proper desk to sit on) ranging from 5ish to around 15 years old. It very quickly became apparent that Lee is not a teacher. She regularly snapped and shouted at the kids in the class and even admitted that she found the lessons “boring” and could do them with her “eyes closed”. She refuses to do smaller group/individual lessons as “it's not worth her time”.
Lee lacked any empathy or patience with the boys and most of them were extremely bored/desperate to go home. They were being barked instructions at and constantly being told off for minor indiscretions. At one point, she even began discussing a small (6) child's attitude problem to me in front of the child and tried to tug off his jumper as she assumed he was too hot, (after he had told her on numerous occasions that he was not).
I am so glad that I was able to stay, as I genuinely worry how my young boy would have been treated if I wasn't present. I am certain that a child who is demotivated/lacking confidence about their handwriting would begin to hate it even more after a lesson with Lee. There was no encouragement to take pride in their writing and very little praise throughout the 1.5 hours I was there.
Finally, I witnessed Lee asking a child to record his testimonial on his way out. She told him what he needed to say, while she recorded it and he was promised a gift once he had done his review. So, I would take all reviews with a pinch of salt!
Does the programme work? Very possibly. I think it is actually a good programme. However, I would say to find another teacher. Lee should stick to earning her money from licensing the product to others who have experience teaching, can relate to children and encourage a love of learning.
I would never send my child back to Lee. If you have a child taking lessons with her now, I would consider asking them how they are treated while you are gone…
