– Approach people on the street and persuade them to go into the store
– Ignore you when you say you’ll decide whether to make the purchase later (I had an appointment with another jeweller) and keep talking to make you feel pressured to stay
– Put on a show of talking discounts past their colleagues but the colleague wasn’t a manager so they didn’t really have to give their approval
– Offered to discount a diamond ring from £8,500 to £6,700 so their list prices are obviously a rip off
– Eventually I gave in and paid a deposit of £1,500 for the ring and arranged to collect it later
– Once I’d had time to think and realised I’d made a mistake and went back a couple of hours later, they refused to refund me because “it’s their policy”
– They did offer to give me store credit so the issue wasn’t that they’d made any alterations to the ring
– Not the place to buy expensive jewellery, as you can tell from the look of the store and the sales tactics
– Not the experience you want to have when making one of the most important purchases of your life
