Google Bad Review: Worst experience EVER.
This is the first time I leave such a review. I was in a twin room with private bathroom. I had chosen Davies Court because it’s a place where I volunteered and I had seen that they did value their guests, were respectful and very friendly, my experience as a volunteer there had been awesome. At least with the manager at that time.
The rooms are relatively clean, the residence is very well located and has all the basic amenities. I say relatively clean because the cleaning is done every week, but the bathroom has no window and was full of mold, which gives a terrible smell to it, I’ve been there for five months and it’s been painted only last month. But the bathroom in that particular room is very spacious. I’ve also been in single rooms and I noticed that they have smelly carpets too (and the powder they use to mask the smell only masks it for a couple of hours). The place itself is a student accommodation so it’s quite noisy, but honestly you get used to it. I think it’s the kind of place which is perfect for a short-term stay but definitely not for long-term. The only reason I haven’t left was because nobody makes a lease for someone who stays less than six months. But despite the discount I feel like I was wasting my money to people who don’t deserve a penny for being so rude.
What made this experience awful was not even the place but the reception staff. Especially the manager who can do nothing else than giving attitude like he has personal issues with you. He even had the audacity to tell me I needed to smile more to look more welcoming (I’ve never seen a smile on his face though, I guess it only looks good on women).
I think working in a place where you receive guests implies that you’ll have to deal with some of the issues your guests will encounter, especially if they stay longtime. But every time I had a significant issue with other guests (who didn’t respect the rules we all signed to book in), I had to deal with it myself (and I’ve been called out for it) or call the LHA customer services to get someone to deal with it (the only competent and respectful person there). The manager even told me to stop calling customer services (then, do your job ?), which I eventually did and surprise : he hasn’t done a thing about that issue. They are the ones who told me if I had an issue I had to let them know and not deal with it myself, to then complain about my reports (?). The assistant manager and the head housekeeper are people I’ve worked with when I was a volunteer there and I’ve been very disappointed to notice that they have become as bitter as their new manager. Without this, despite the inconveniences caused to me, it could have been a nice experience just like the first time. And after talking to other guests and hearing the same things, I think letting people know through this review is the right thing to do.
I don’t know if I’ve been treated so poorly because I used to volunteer there, but I wouldn’t recommend Davies Court for a long-term stay AT ALL.
*edit* I have never asked for anyone to rule in my favor but to rule, point blank. As you did not (after I asked several times for something to be done), I resolved the matter my way, reason why they had reasons to complain.And sorry but reminding two of my roommates (out of nine) that they have to respect quiet times (the rules, once again) because they are not alone in the room is not exactly – if not at all – the definition of ‘constantly’. Don't put your incompetence on me please. Best regards.
