Google Bad Review 1: My most recent experience at this vet practice was appalling as I felt taken advantaged of because of my vulnerability as a result of being terribly worried about my pet.
On 8/7/2022 my pet ingested an antiseptic cream so my immediate and most responsible reaction as a pet owner was to call the vets practice (Mead Veterinary Centre).
During the call I was asked several questions about what had happened, which indicated they were making an assessment of the situation but despite me being specific about the quantity of antiseptic my pet had ingested and the size of my pet, I was asked if I’d agree to pay £60 for them to make a phone call to the animal poisoning line. In my panic I agreed without asking further questions.
I then was asked to make my way to them immediately to which I thought my pet was in grave danger.
When I got to the practice I was left waiting for what turned out to be over one hour!
Whilst waiting, and given my worry, I decided to make use of First Vet app (a vet consulting service I have access to with my pet insurance) and to my surprise I was told that I could’ve saved myself the £60 charge if I had contacted them first. I tried to dissipate my annoyance by thinking the vet would make a thorough check on my pet… very optimistic on my part!
When I realised an hour had passed, I decided enough was enough and after complaining to the receptionist, I was seen by a vet who barely checked my pet and asked me to regurgitate the incident.
Given the appalling service and the unnecessary charge, I decided to look into the poisoning line, and to my surprise and further annoyance, I realised Mead vets had just made a +70% profit on my worry. It turns out that if I’d made the phone call myself, I would’ve been charged £35 but of course I didn’t know this because I was not informed about it or given the choice.
In my humble view, this is a disgusting way of treating pets and their owners and this shows they have complete disregard for their worries/feeling.
This vet practice is only worried about making money at all costs and don’t really care about animals, just how much money they can bring in.
I do not recommend this practice and I will be de-registering from it as a result.
