Google Bad Review 1: I'm a long term Best Mengal diner. I've been eating here with my family for several years. I was initially pleased they were expanding, expecting an increase in dining capacity but sadly it didn't meet my expectations. They've done the opposite of what once made this a great local Turkish grill house:
1. They have new staff, I didn't recognise any faces I was familiar with. I suspect they got rid of them.
2. They've raised prices by 40-50% on all of their menu items.
3. Added a hidden and quite nasty service charge of 12%
4. Drastically reduced food portion sizes (by half in some dishes).
5. Removed the famous grill sharing platter for two and four people.
6. They now charge for items that were previously included with meals e.g. rice
7. Reduced their menu options by cutting popular staple items.
8. The old decor was beautiful, very authentic Turkish, the new decor was sterile and terrible in taste. It no longer feels like a Turkish restaurant. It looks like a secondary school students interior decoration project.
Final thoughts:
I felt cheated when the bill arrived with the new service charge on top of the price increase and reduced portion sizes and paying for rice that was previously included.
Our previous visit prior to the refurbishment I paid £80 to feed my family of three adults and two minors and we felt stuffed. This visit I paid £127 and we did not eat heartily. The price did not reflect upon the quality, taste or serving size either. I actually felt cheated and as any diner knows that's not a nice feeling.
My family and I were very disappointed and won't be eating here anymore.
P. S The review from “Em Abraham” below is fake. It is posted after my review and notice how the plates in the photo are laid out meticulously and there are no diners in the photo. The user also has no other review either. Writing your own review. Hilarious!
