Google Bad Review (2): 51 days ago I switched energy supplier to EDF energy . My sole reason for switching was that my previous supplier had comically and outrageously mismanaged my appointment for their engineer to come and rip out the nasty little pre-payment meter at my new flat and replace it with standard credit meter. Switching suppliers to EDF at that point was going to mean waiting 7 weeks for a new appointment instead of mere days with the old supplier but – having, frankly, been lied to by the first supplier – I decided to put principle ahead of convenience and made the switch. EDF gave me the date of 15 April as the [point from which I could make the engineer appointment.
Earlier today (15th April), I duly call EDF customer services for the purpose of making said appointment. The woman confirms that I can now make the meter replacement appointment. So far so good, but this is where things get weird: this Geordie rent-a-mouth then spends fully 16 minutes wasting my time talking about available tariffs on a credit meter and the Covid-safe approach of their engineers before ‘checking for appointments' and (apparently with a straight face!) telling me that THERE ARE NO AVAILABLE ENGINEER APPOINTMENTS in my area!
My postcode might be CR0, but this is London for chrissake! What kind of energy company has no available engineers in London?!!!
Having been assured by them back in February that it was business as usual for their home-visit engineers despite the Pandemic, she was now telling me that – in this day and age – they could no longer even schedule appointments! The best they could offer was a place on the waiting list FOR an engineers appointment! in that at some point in the future I could expect to receive notification by email or text of available home-visit engineer appointments!
It was to get even better: this woman – having just used the availability of email or text notification to address my instinctive concerns about the viability of this ‘waiting list' – adds the proverbial insult to injury by advising me that it might be best to call periodically rather than relying on being placed on the ‘waiting list' to get me the appointment! Just who do these people really think that they are dealing with? Not only is home visits from its engineers a fiction, but so is the so-called ‘waiting list' offered in lieu of actual concrete engineer appointments. Do people out there really tolerate being abused in this way? I certainly won't: within minutes of concluding the call I was on the Uswitch website switching to British Gas as my electricity supplier. In all honesty, the primary motivation to vote with my feet in this way wasn't even the disinformation and economy with the truth around the home visits. It was what mendaciously wasting 16 minutes of my time says about this company's attitude to its customers. As someone taking calls like mine everyday, this woman I spoke to could not have not known the situation regarding engineer bookings.: ‘Mr Russell, I appreciate that you have been waiting a long time to switch from a pre-pay to a credit meter but unfortunately, we are currently unable to schedule engineer visits in your area. Your interest has been registered and you will be advised by email or text message as soon as this situation changes. My apologies for any inconvenience. Your custom is appreciated.' That is all this woman would have had to say when I first made known the reason for my call and I would still be an EDF customer. Is this rocket science? No! Just what planet are these people on that they can think that their approach can result in any other outcome than the loss of a customer?

Google Good Review: Great customer service! We have aprepayment gas meter and the battery run out with no gas coming in our home on Boxing Day! Called the emergency EDF help line and the lady, while I was on the phone, logged my problem and arranged an engineer to come out. I was scared it may take a day or two for him to come, in the cold house in the winter! But I was quoted 4 hrs. In fact the engineer came in 40 min after I put my phone down. It was surprisingly amazing so quick and so helpful! I never had problem with EDF, my gas and electric with them for many years. Their customer service is fantastic, all my queries in the past were dealt with while I was in the phone. I dont mind to pay a little more but have the company that does not let you be without gas or electricity for long, always helpful and assisting. ❤️ FYI, I dont work for them, just a long-term customer who tried Scottish Power and British Gas, and they are far behind from EDF, waaaay far behind.
